Carl Gerald Kasten

Carl Gerald Kasten, 86, died Aug. 18, 2010, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.
He was born March 25, 1924, at Latimer, the son of Charles and Lola (Smith) Kasten.
A resident
of Scott City since 1956, moving from Council Grove, he had been the Duckwall’s store manager from 1946-86.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served on several committees; was a former Scott City councilman for 16 years, serving as mayor for eight years; was a past commander of the VFW of Council Grove and the American Legion of Scott City; was the first Cub Scout Master of Pack No. 77; was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scott City; and a member of the Isis Shrine Temple, Salina.
He was a WWII US Navy veteran, serving on the USS Arneh in the South Pacific Theater.
On Oct. 5, 1947, he married Dorothy M. Potter at Russell. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Gerald, Skandia, Mich., Donald, Wichita, and Larry, Sharon Springs; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will be held Sat., Aug. 21, 2:30 p.m., at the United Methodist Church, Scott City.
Burial will be in the Scott County Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Price and Sons Funeral Home, Scott City, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
