Eugene S. Prater

Eugene S. Prater, 85, died Feb. 25, 2010, at Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City.

He was born July 14, 1924, at Pullman, Wash., the son of Ralph Boyd and Elizabeth (Lyle) Prater. 

He grew up in Idaho and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Before his marriage he was the cook at the Robinson Motor Inn, Scott City, 12 Mile Cafe and Granny’s Cafe. He and his wife ran the Dee and Gene’s Tavern, Garden City, from 1977-81. He then cooked at Garden City Community College and at IBP before he retired. 

On Jan. 30, 1975, he married Delorse F. Wyatt at Garden City. She survives.

Other survivors include: four sons, Donald D. Wyatt, Norfolk, Nebr., Norman and Gary Wyatt, both of Garden City, and Marvin Wyatt, Scott City; two daughters, Donna Allen-Roth and Janet Wilson, both of Garden City; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray and Roy; and two sisters, Mary and Eva.

 Funeral service was held Feb. 28 at  Garden Valley Retirement Village Chapel, Garden City, with Rev. Terry Major officiating. Burial was in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
