Helen G. Doubrava

Helen G. Doubrava, 89, died Feb. 9, 2010, at Homestead Health and Rehabilitation Center, Garden City. 

She was born May 7, 1920, at Udall, the daughter of Willis A. and Elsie M. (Thompson) Rowe. 

She was raised and attended school in Udall. After her education she worked as a telephone operator at Winfield and lived in Wichita and Winfield before moving to Garden City in 1948. 

She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross, attended Bible Christian Church, Garden City, was a past member of the Elks Lodge, Order of Eastern Star, and several bridge clubs.  

On Feb. 27, 1942, she married J.A. Doubrava at Wellington. He died April 10, 1984. 

Survivors include: one son, Mike, Durant, Okla.; two daughters, Linda Taylor and Sharolyn Funk, both of Garden City; one brother, Bill Rowe, Great Bend; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Merle, Earl and Ronnie; and three sisters, Lorene Bowby, Thelma Buckman and Sharolyn Richardson. 

Funeral service will be held Fri., Feb. 12, 10:30 a.m., at Bible Christian Church, Garden City, with Rev. Jeff Starkey officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
