Marcella O. Lutters

Marcella O. Lutters, 87, died Feb.  1, 2010, at the Grisell Memorial Hospital, Ransom.

She was born Jan. 16, 1923, at the family farmhouse northwest of Ransom, the daughter of Joseph P. and Matilda Elizabeth (Young) Kraus.

She attended Pink School, north of Ransom, for all eight grades. She was the piano player for the family band “Nubs and his Nubbins,” which played at many barn dances and weddings.

She was a member of the St. Aloysius Church and Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. 

On July 31, 1945, she married Joseph F. Lutters at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Ransom. He died March 4, 1980.

Survivors include: five sons, Joe,   and wife, Patti, and Bill, all of Ness City, Ed and wife, Terri, Buena Vista, Colo., and Jim and Richard, both of Ransom; seven daughters, Mary Funk, and husband, Mel, Nortonville, Carol Dumbar and husband, George, Buena Vista, Colo., Jeanette Hornung, Dodge City, Geraldine Offutt and husband, Kent, Coldwater, Barbara Summers and husband, Dave, Scott City, Kathy Sunley and husband, Rich, Ransom, and Debbie Wantland and husband, Ron, Pueblo, Colo.; 29 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one-great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cecilia; eight brothers, Albert, Early, Ralph, Leo, Norbert, Hugo, Florian and Cyril; and two sisters, Lena Hilmes and Josephine Ketzner.

A parish vigil and rosary was held  Feb. 4 at St. Aloysius Church, Ransom. Mass of Christian burial will be held Fri., Feb. 5, 10:30 a.m., at St. Aloysius Church, Ransom, with Frs. Bill Kraus, David Kraus and Henry Hildebrandt presiding.

Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Ransom.

Memorials my be sent to St. Aloysius Altar Society, Grisell Memorial Hospital and Rhode Island Suites in care of Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 207 N. Penn, Ness City, Ks. 67560.
