Raymond W. Schuetz

Raymond W. Schuetz, 90, Garden City, died Feb. 1, 2010, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City. 

He was born July 26, 1919, at Seguin, the son of Mathias and Elizabeth (Reinert) Schuetz. 

A 1939 graduate of Hoxie High School, he worked on the family farm before joining the U.S. Army and serving his country during WWII. While in the Army he was stationed in England with the Army Air Corps, returning to Seguin in 1945.

In the early 1950s he owned and operated his own gas station before moving to Garden City in 1959 where he worked for different farmers and then at the Kansas State University Experiment Station, retiring in 1984. 

He was a member of the Optimist Club and St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. 

On April 6, 1948, he married Edna M. Garner at Seguin. She has passed away.

Survivors include: two sons, Dan, Northampton, England, and Tom, Holcomb; three daughters, Anita Dunlap, Dodge City, Pam Gottschall, Shawnee, and Erica Beeson, Scott City; one brother, Bernard, Denver; three sisters, Pauline Perkins and Asella Lindstrom, both of Salina, and Josephine Goscha, Garden City; 21 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary; one brother, Robert; and two sisters, Isabell Peltier and Henritta Labarge. 

Vigil service was held Feb. 4 at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Funeral mass will be held Fri., Feb. 5, 2:00 p.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Efiri Matthias Selemobri, MSP, officiating. Burial will be at the Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. 

Visitation will be Friday, 9:00-11:30 a.m., at Garnand Funeral Home.
