Laban Ira Wright, 90, Garden City, died Aug. 18, 2010, at Garden Valley Retirement Village, Garden City.
He was born May 25, 1920, at Olmitz, the son of John I. and Ila C. (Meyers) Wright.
At an early age Ira moved with his parents to Gove, Logan and Scott counties, then to Garden City in 1941.
He was a member of the English Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1940, remaining faithful to his religion.
He worked in appliance repair for most of his life, owning Bowman’s Appliance from 1956-70. He later worked for Sears and Jarmer’s until his retirement in 1985.
On May 25, 1946, he married Joyce E. Corrigan at Garden City.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Grimsley, and husband, Mike, Sandra Crone and husband, Leon, and Rhonda Bartos and husband, Dann, all of Garden City; five sisters, Lavina Bozone, Oakhurst, Okla., Ila Ivey, Amarillo, Tex., Violet Dishman and Carol Garcia, both of Pratt, and Frances Booth, Liberal; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
A graveside service was held Aug. 20 at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City. A memorial service was held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Garden City, immediately following the graveside service.
