Melvin L. Stegman

Melvin L. Stegman, 83, died Aug. 25, 2010, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.
Melvin was born June 16, 1927, at Loretto, the son of Andrew and Lucy (Sulzman) Stegman.
He was a retired truck driver and oil field industry worker and had been a Wichita County resident since 1959, moving from Loretto. He served in the United States Army as a corporal during World War II.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal, and a lifetime member of the VFW, Scott City.
On Nov. 21, 1959, he married Evelyn Rose Berning at Marienthal. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Timothy, and wife, Suzette, Cadiz, Ky., Randall and wife, Vickie, Edgerton, and Douglas and wife, Joni, Marienthal; one daughter, Sandra Lacoy, and husband, John Jr., Scott City; three brothers, Harold, Bison, Everett, LaCrosse, and Leroy and wife, Bernadette, Grand Island, Nebr.; two sisters, Evelyn Alexander, and husband, Jim, Wichita, and Bernice Wiewel and husband, Joe, Russell; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Stanley; and three brothers, Gerald, Raymond and Donald.
Vigil service was held Aug. 27 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marienthal.
Funeral mass was held Aug. 28 at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Benjamin Martin officiating.
Burial was in the St. Mary Cemetery, Marienthal, with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army Funeral Detail from Ft. Riley.
