claims 18
gold medals
at Lakin

The Scott City Stars collected an impressive 18 gold medals and 25 runner-up finishes at the Lakin swim meet on June 26.
Madison Shapland brought home five gold medals - including three individual - to lead the Lady Stars who finished the day with 11 golds and 15 silvers.
Shapland (8-years and under) claimed top honors in the 25m freestyle (18.16), nudging teammate Piper Wasinger by just 2/10 of a second. She was also the meet champion in the 100m freestyle (1:49.32) and the 25m butterfly (23.76).
Shapland added two more golds as a member of the 100m freestyle (1:26.99) and 100m medley (1:46.31) relays. Other members of both relays were Brooke Hoeme, Paige Vulgamore and Wasinger.
Wasinger was a double gold medalist in the 50m freestyle (43.97) and the 25m breaststroke (24.59).
Other Lady Stars picking up gold medals were Haley Allen (11-12-years) in the 100m freestyle (1:14.07), Christina Rosenlund (13-14-years) in the 100m backstroke (1:25.33) and Shanaya Hoeme (15-years and over) in the 200m freestyle (2:22.02).
Scott City added another win in the 9-10-year-old 200m freestyle relay with a time of 2:36.82. Members of the relay team were Kylee Trout, Rachel Fisher, Makaela Stevens and Jordan Miller.
The Stars earned a bushel of silver medals, including five in the relays.
In the 11-12-year division, Scott City was a runner-up in the 200m freestyle (2:24.52) and the 200m medley (2:51.76). Competing on both relay teams were Cassidy Hornbostel, Camryn Patton, Lizzy Eikenberry and Haley Allen.
Members of the 100m medley relay (8-years and under) earning a silver medal were Allison Brunswig, Lanae Haupt, Alli Patton and Grace Hutton.
The 9-10-years medley relay (3:14.19) earned a silver medal. Members were Jordan Miller, Alexis Hoeme, Kylee Trout and Makaela Stevens.
Competing in the 15-years and over 200m freestyle (2:02.51) which finished second were Krissa Dearden, Alicia Niles, Reagan Smyth and Christina Rosenlund.
Winning two individual silver medals each were Shanaya Hoeme in the 50m freestyle (27.73) and the 100m freestyle (62.81); Piper Wasinger in the 25m freestyle (18.36) and the 25m butterfly (47.49); and Kylee Trout in the 100m freestyle (1:29.68) and the 50m butterfly (47.49).

Boys Win 7 Golds
Dylan Hutchins and Jackson Lewis combined to win five of seven gold medals for the Scott City boys, who also finished the day with 10 silver medals.
Hutchins (11-12-years) picked up a pair of individual wins in the 100m freestyle (1:16.99) and the 200m individual medley (3:24.27), along with being a member of the gold medal 200m freestyle relay (2:33.06). Other relay members were Kyle Cure, Nick Storm and Chase Rumford.
D. Hutchins added silvers in the 50m breaststroke (44.91) and the 50m butterfly (39.15).
Lewis (8-years and under) was a winner in the 25m freestyle (19.83) and the 50m freestyle (48.0), where he finished just ahead of teammate Connor Cupp (2nd, 51.06). He was also a runner-up in the 25m backstroke (25.61).
Marshal Hutchins (13-14 years) accounted for the only other individual gold in the 200m individual medley (2:56.22). He was a silver medalist in the 100m backstroke (1:22.69).
The Scott City boys were also winners in the 8-years and under 100m freestyle relay (1:52.83). Team members were Ronnie Weathers, Ryan Cure, Eric Shapland and Landon Trout.
Other individual silver medalists were Kyle Cure (9-10-years) in the 50m freestyle (33.98); Andrew Brown (13-14-years) in the 200m freestyle (2:43.38); and Alex Swan (15-years and over) in the 50m freestyle (25.31).
The 200m freestyle relays picked up silver medals in the 9-10-year division (3:26.13) consisting of Conner Cupp, Brendon Marciak, Sawyer Stevens and Lewis, and the 15-years and over division (1:59) which included M. Hutchins, Andrew Brown, Alex Swan and Steven Fisher.
