Local woman killed in McPherson County accident
A Scott City woman was killed following an automobile accident in McPherson County on Wednesday.
The McPherson County Sheriff's Department says that at approximately 1:57 p.m., Emily E. Lightner, 37, was northbound on Plum Street when an eastbound 2001 white Dodge Stratus driven by a 16 year old male from McPherson failed to stop at a stop sign and struck Lightner's vehicle on the driver's side.
The Stratus came to a stop against a utility pole and caught fire. The Prius went off Plum Street through a barbed wire fence and came to rest on its roof in a nearby pasture.
Lightner was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16 year old male was transported by Reno County EMS to the Hutchinson Hospital. His condition is unknown.
Lightner, a mother of six and wife of Scott County Hospital physician Dr. Matthew Lightner, was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident.
