Gary Allen Speer

Gary Allen Speer, 68, died, March 4, 2024, at Hays Medical Center.

He was born on May 15, 1955, in Scott City, the son of Charles Arthur and Marilyn Joy (Butt) Speer. A lifetime resident of Scott City he was a farmer, mechanic, contractor, oil field worker and handyman.

Gary enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, hunting, fishing and crossword puzzles.

On Nov. 5, 1977, he married Lark Appel in Scott City. She survives.

Other survivors include sons, Gerrad and wife, Lauren, Wichita, and Nick and wife, Shenna, Topeka; brothers, Gaylon Speer, Overbook, and Gordon Speer, Jetmore; a sister, Jeanne Spradling and partner, Kent Ochsner, Baldwin City; and five grandchildren, Graham Speer, Eleanor Speer, Landon Speer, Cadence Speer and Silas Speer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral service will be held Mon., March 11, 2:00 p.m., at the First Christian Church, Scott City, with Rev. Rodney Hopper presiding.

There will be no calling times.
