Terry J. Wycoff

Terry J. Wycoff, 66, died, Jan. 31, 2024, in Scott City.

He was born on April 9, 1957, in Oakley, the son of Richard Andrew and Marlene Kathrine (Mader) Wycoff.

Terry was raised in Russell Springs, then moved to Winona while in high school, graduating from the Tri-Plains school district.

A resident of Scott City since 1991, moving from Colby, he was a sales representative for Kimball Midwest.

Terry was a man of many talents. He was a strong athlete with a competitive spirit. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed many opportunities serving others with this gift. Through the years, Terry held different positions in sales where he was able to meet new people and have great conversations.

Among Terry’s favorite places to be were his times with good friends making memories at NHRA drag racing events, either in the stands or helping them on the starting line, or at home watching his Green Bay Packers or Kansas Jayhawks.

But most of all, he loved track and field events, particularly when his daughter, Kelly, was competing. Even after she retired as an athlete, he continued to follow track and field, especially his son-in-law Brett Meyer and the athletes Kelly and Brett coached at Fort Hays State University.

Terry was known by many for his warm smile or wave and servant’s heart, always ready to help someone in need or simply offer encouragement.

As a member of the Baptist Church he enjoyed his years assisting with the radio ministry and serving in the kitchen with many events in Scott City.

On August 10, 1991, he married Lora Ward in Golden, Colo. She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Kelly Meyer and husband, Brett, Hays, Tanner Wycoff and Lindsay Wycoff Smith, both of Overland Park; brothers, Jerry Wycoff and wife, Elaine, Oakley, and Andy Wycoff and wife, Lindy, Little Rock, Ark.; sister, Carla Wycoff, Minden, Nebr.; and a grandson expected to arrive in April.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth.

A memorial service was held on February 6 at the First Baptist Church, Scott City, with Don Williams presiding.

Memorials can be written to the Terry Wycoff Memorial Fund for a scholarship in care of Price and Sons Funeral Homes, Box 553, Scott City, Ks. 67871.
