The world’s central bankers, almost without exception, are now busy swinging sledgehammers. Only whopping interestrate hikes, they’re preaching, can pound down inflation’s rising prices.
“I wonder how long we’re going to have these institutions at the rate we’re undermining them,” said a Supreme Court justice earlier this year. “And then I wonder when they’re gone or destabilized, what we will have as a country.”
It might seem quaint, but there was a time when we would sit down at the dinner table - to a real meal and not something that just came out of a microwave - and we might be asked . . . brace yourself . . . “What did you learn in school today?”
