Betty Lou Baker

Betty Lou (Geyer) Baker, 90, died on Nov. 13, 2021, at the Wichita County Hospital, Leoti.

She was born on Aug. 26, 1931, at the family homestead on White Woman Creek in Wichita County, the daughter of Elmer and Lola (Coffman) Geyer.

Betty graduated from Wichita County High School in 1949 and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society, both of Marienthal. Betty enjoyed spending

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, being a farm wife, growing flowers, baking, playing cards, and traveling.

In her travels, she visited Malaysia, Japan, Germany, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, Canada and many other places. She enjoyed amusement parks and a roller coaster always put a smile on her face.

On Nov. 22, 1949, she married Louis Joseph Baker in Marienthal. He died on Feb. 18, 2014, in Leoti.

She is survived by her seven children: Maurita (Jim) Koerperich of Garden City, Steve (Janice) Baker of Marienthal, Melvin (Carlotta) Baker of Marienthal, Kenny (Sherri) Baker of Scott City, Tammy (Scott) Martin of Holcomb, Lori (Major) Graff of Marienthal, and Michael (Aileen) Baker of Walnut Creek, Calif; a sister, Norma Lee (Howard) Siebert, Sharon Springs; and sisters-in-law Sharon Geyer, Shadow Hills, Calif., Nellie Scheffe, Marienthal, and Theresa Baker, Colby; 20 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jane Baker; grandson, Nathan Scott Koerperich; and brothers Virgil, Harold, Junior (Elmer), Lloyd, Arthur and Sydney.

The funeral Mass will be Friday, Nov. 19, 10:00 a.m., at St. Mary’s Church with Fr. Timothy Hickey presiding.

The service will be live streamed on the Western Kansas Catholic Facebook page.

Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.
