Loretta Carolyn Ray

Loretta Carolyn Ray, 82, died Nov. 20, 2021, at the Scott County Hospital.

She was born in Tribune on Oct. 25, 1939, to Willy C. and Lulanell (Dealy) Ray.

Carolyn graduated from school in Greeley County and attended Fort Hays University where she studied to be a radiology technician.

Carolyn did her clinical rotations at St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City. She worked there for a few years and then began working for a group that served Dr. Bakey and Dr. Gentrey.

She was a RAD technician and phlebotomist as well as cleaning the office until retiring after 35 years of service.

She operated a bar for a few years in Kansas City named the WindJammer where she met many friends. Carolyn was a care giver when she left Kansas City in early 2000, moving to Western Kansas to help care for her older sister, Retha, who had Alzheimer’s.

Carolyn later moved to Oklahoma to help her best friend in life, Betty, and her sister, Mary, with their ailing mother, Wanette Pistole. When Wanette died, Carolyn moved back to Kansas City where she lived and cared for Betty when she became ill. After Betty passed away, Carolyn moved to Scott City in 2016, where she could be closer to her nephew and niece.

Survivors include six nieces and nephews and their spouses: Dennis Hubbs, Saratoga, Wyo., Penny Twomey and husband, Albert, Wright Wyo., Jana Raider and husband, Neal, Richmond, Va., Kim and Georgia, Templeton, Calif., Tim Giesick and Sam Giesick, Leoti, and Kody and Rick Rogers, Scott City; in addition to many greatnieces and nephews.

Carolyn was cremated and her ashes spread with her older sister, Retha, and her brother-in-law, Dale, in Wyoming. There will be a private memorial in Wyoming in July for family and friends.
