Donald Bruce Wren
Donald Bruce Wren, 82, died Dec. 3, 2021, at his Rocky Ford home.
He was born on August 12, 1939, in Scott City to Clyde Russell and Sarah Ethel (Schoonover) Wren.
Don was a faithful husband, loving father, grandfather and greatgrandfather who loved four-wheeling, camping, raising cattle, and attending sporting events for his grandchildren.
Always above self, Don loved his community, helping friends, neighbors and even strangers with his “jack of all trades” skills, rarely asking for anything in return, yet humble to ask for help when needed. The essence of a quiet community member and countryman.
He was raised on a farm outside of Ordway. He graduated from Crowley County High School, placing second at state in the half mile.
He was employed by Citizens Utilities shortly after high school, working as a serviceman before starting his own company, DW Heating and Air.
He was a volunteer fireman in Rocky Ford for several years in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. He coached youth baseball for many years, taking the 1977 Santa Fe League All-Stars to the state tournament with a win over an outstanding La Junta Tigers team.
In 1990, Don and Judi bought a farm south of Rocky Ford and began to pursue a passion of raising cattle, and having BIG BONFIRES. Never truly retiring, he began to slow the business in 2010, to spend time with the love of his life, Judi, and the company of his friends in the “coffee club.”
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith, Rocky Ford, Colo.; children, Glonda Becker and husband, Pat, Faucett, Mo., Dereke Wren and wife, Donna, Swink, Colo., Darci Wren and husband, Burton, Scott City, Lynn Geist, Boise, Ida., Mark Geist and wife, Krystal, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Nicole Boone and husband, James, Olney Springs, Colo; a sister, Rita Weis and husband, Junior, Ordway, Colo.; a brother, Jerry Wren and partner, Cody, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 23 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous close nieces and nephews.
