Margaret Ann Snyder
Margaret Ann Snyder, 85, died March 10, 2022, at the Scott County Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born November 15, 1936, in Geneseo to Chet and Gladys Heitschmidt.
She graduated from Geneseo High School in 1954 and continued her education at Southwestern College, Winfield, graduating cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education.
While attending Southwestern, she was one of three selected to study for a semester in Washington, D.C. She also used her piano skills to participate in talent competitions.
It was while she was in college that she met “the love of her life,” Jerry Snyder. He survives.
She taught in Winfield, Great Bend and Larned before stopping to have her two daughters, Cheryl and Dawna.
The Snyders moved to Scott City in 1969 from Pawnee Rock, with Jerry finishing his advanced degree at Fort Hays State University during the summers.
Margaret resumed teaching at Scott City in 1974. She was awarded a Master Teacher award in 1993. She retired in 2003, after 34 years of teaching.
Margaret enjoyed trips with Jerry and the girls, photography, flowers, playing piano for the early service at church, and later in life, reading The Scott County Record and going to Dairy Queen where she had lots of friends.
Other survivors include her daughters, Dawna Snyder and Cheryl Darbro and partner, Mike Calvin; sister, Barbara Miles; sister-in-law Cina Snyder; two nieces, three nephews, their spouses, and caregiver Becky Hutchins.
The funeral service will be Sat., March 12, 2:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Scott City, with Larry Danforth officiating.
A graveside service will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Scott City United Methodist Women, the Scott County Library, or the Scott County Historical Society.
