Georgia Marie (Rowton) Griem
Georgia Marie (Rowton) Griem, 87, died on March 17, 2022, at Hays Medical Center.
Georgia was born on Aug. 12, 1934, the daughter of George and Mary (Eder) Rowton.
Georgia attended Marymount College, Salina, where she studied home economics.
She married Herman F. Griem on Feb. 11, 1952. Herman and Georgia lived in Medicine Lodge while Herman was in the U.S. Army, moving to Garden City where Herman was a police officer.
They eventually made their forever home in Leoti where they raised their 10 children.
Georgia worked as the activities director at the Wichita County Nursing Home for 23 years. She was honored as “Employee of the Year” while working there.
She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include nine of her children, Rick Griem and wife, Jean, Scott City, Barbara King, Wilburton, Okla., Edward Griem, Wichita, Debra Eikelberger and husband, Jerry, Scott City, Judy Lechenbert, Greenleaf, Kenny Griem and wife, Krissi, Lawrence; Rennie Griem and wife, Donna, Salina, Liz Gould and husband, John, Leoti, and Lee Griem and wife, Michelle, Tonganoxie; one sister, Lyla Burch and husband, Lester; and one brother, Jim Rowton and wife, Frankie; 27 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Keith and Kenny Rowton; one sister, Adeline Mays; one daughter, Nancy Griem; and two grandchildren, Alvin and Terry Burch.
The funeral vigil was held on March 24 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Leoti.
Funeral service will be Fri., March 25, 10:30 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church with graveside service following at the Leoti Cemetery.
A luncheon with family and friends will then be held at St. Anthony of Padua.
