Phyllis Moyer Fater
Phyllis Moyer Fater, 77, died April 17, 2022, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.
S h e was born on March 6, 1945, in Sellersivllie, Pa., the daughter of Jacob and Ethel Moyer.
Phyllis grew up in Pennsylvania with her sister, Carolyn, and brother, Richard. In 1967, she earned a bachelor of education degree from Kutztown State College.
Phyllis raised three children in Bixby, Okla., and lived there from 1973 until 2017, when she moved to Fort Collins, Colo., to be near her son, Matthew Fater. In January of 2019, she moved to Scott City to be near her daughter, Melissa.
She was heavily involved in education, working in early childhood education after earning her Master’s degree in early childhood education from Northeastern State University, Talequah, Okla. She started the first Parents as Teachers program in Oklahoma.
Phyllis retired from teaching at the Glenpool (Okla.) Elementary school in Glenpool after 32 years.
Survivors include her sons, Stephen Fater and wife, Carrie, Tulsa, Okla., and Matthew Fater, Ft. Collins, Colo.; her daughter, Melissa Batterton and husband, Shawn, Scott City; three grandsons, Carson Batterton, Reed Batterton and Zachary Fater; one sister, Carolyn Schneider, Philadelphia, Pa.; and one niece, Christy Schneider, Philadelphia, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Moyer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
