Leo Melvin Schoonover
Leo Melvin Schoonover, 85, died, May 26, 2022, at the Scott County Hospital, Scott City.
H e was born on Sept. 20, 1936, in Scott City, the son of Melvin and Gen evieve (Rictor) Schoonover.
Leo was a lifetime resident of Scott City.
Leo was a shoeshine boy at Chick’s Barber Shop early in his life. Later he was a linotype operator at The News Chronicle newspaper in Scott City.
He later owned and operated Schoonover Printing in Scott City from 1974 until retiring in 2006. He was a member of
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Scott City.
On June 18, 1971, he married Marlene Smith in Scott City. She died July 24, 2019, in Scott City.
Survivors include his son, Doug Schoonover and wife, Vonnie, Vero Beach, Fla.; his daughter, Kaye Schoonover, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Verda Dietz, Hays, and Letha Williamson, Baldwin City; one granddaughter, Lexy Schoonover, Sunrise, Fla.; and one grandson, Alex Schoonover, Fort Collins, Colo.
He was also preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held Sat., June 11, 11:00 a.m., at the First Christian Church, Scott City, with Garee Geist-Smith presiding.
There will be no calling times.
Inurnment will be in the Scott County Cemetery.
