Ronald D. Cook

Ronald D. Crook, 85, died on Dec. 14, 2022, at Founders Comfort Care Home, Wichita.

H e was born on July 16, 1937, in LaCr o s s e , the son of Gerald Dean and Margie A. (Renner) Crook.

He married Linda Long on Dece. 26, 1960, in Lamar, Colo. He later married Carole A. Stewart on April 7, 1984, in Selkirk. She died on Feb. 16, 2001.

Ron graduated from Garden City High School in 1955 and earned his associate’s degree from Garden City Community College in 1957.

He worked at a junkyard, ice plant and Anthony’s for three years before moving to Lamar, Colo., where he was manager of the J.C. Penney’s store.

After one year, he returned to Garden City and worked at the Family Booterie for 24 years. In 1978, he bought Renick Drug Store and turned it into Crook’s Shoe Store, which he operated until retiring.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Garden City, Downtown Vision, was active in the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce and his 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Coffee Clubs.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a past member of the Southwest Kansas Sports Car Club of America and loved watching NASCAR.

He is survived by three daughters, Teri Hensen, Castle Rock, Colo., Cheryl Kucharik and husband, Steve, Scott City, and Rhonda Magnison and husband, Randy, Holton; two sons, Jim Crook and wife, Dawn, Montrose, Colo., and Monte Stewart and wife, Allison, Belle Plaine; seven grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; a brother, Jay Crook; and two sisters, Mary Lou Jackson and Vivian Huelskamp.

Friends may call at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, on Tues., Dec. 27, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be Wed., Dec. 28, 11:00 a.m., at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
