Henry Joseph ‘Junior’Strecker

Henry Joseph “Junior” Strecker, 86, died, on Jan. 14, 2023, at his home in Wichita.

H e was born on Oct. 3, 1936, in Spearville, the son of Henry Joseph and Josephine (Lutz) Strecker.

Junior was raised in Hodgeman County, ultimately settling in Scott City in 1975. He was general manager of the Scott Co-op until he retired in 2000.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus for 67 years. He served as Scott City mayor (2001-07), Scott City treasurer (2009-13) and served on numerous boards throughout the state.

He spent his life following sports, most and especially, the Scott Community High School Beavers.

In 2013, he and Sharon moved to Wichita where he resided until his death.

In his early years, he attended school at St. Marys Grade School, Windthorst High School and Wichita State University. He served two years of active duty for the U.S. Army as a medical specialist.

On July 11, 1968, he married Sharon Bogerd in Hebron, Nebr. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Karla Glunz and husband, Greg, Scott City; two sons, Kelly Strecker and wife, Denise, Auburn, and Kevin Strecker and wife, Karen, Wichita; seven grandchildren, Colter Shore and wife, Emily, Windsor, Colo., Trey Strecker and wife, Kelcie, Topeka, Miles Glunz, Scott City, Dylan Glunz and wife, Aurora, Scott City, Jade Crittenden and husband, Brett, Scott City, and Michaela and Will Strecker, Wichita; seven greatgrandchildren, including Kynslee and Madelyn Strecker, Topeka, Stella Shore, Windsor, Colo., and Chasen, Halle, Lyndon and Kelton Crittenden, Scott City; seven brothers, Jerry Strecker and wife, Judy, Amarillo, Tex., LaVern, Independence, Maurice and Kathy, Eureka, Norbert, Spearville, Joe and Linda, Dodge City, John and Mert, Colby, and Mark and Jackie, Spearville; and two sisters-in-law, Cathy Strecker, Wichita, and Martha Strecker, Hays; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers William, Robert and Richard; and two sisters-in-law, Sonja and Teresa.

A vigil service will be held on Sun., Jan. 22, 7:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City.

A memorial funeral service will be held on Mon., Jan. 23, 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Warren Stecklein presiding.

Inurnment will be in the Scott County Cemetery.

There will be no visitation times.
