Myra Strickert

Myra L. Strickert, 100, died, Feb. 4, 2023, at Tallgrass Creek Senior Living Community, Overland Park.

She was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Gove as the oldest daughter of William F. and Iva Mae (Litton) Roemer.

On August 1, 1941, she married the love of her life, Philip E. Strickert, in Ulysses. He died in 2006.

They started their married life of 64 years in Friend and moved to Garden City in 1959. She obtained her cosmetology license and owned her own beauty shop for many years before retiring.

She and Phil were both very active members of The Eagles Lodge where they spent Saturday nights dancing and enjoying time with their many friends. In 2006, she moved to Tallgrass Creek where she enjoyed quilting, working in the library, and spending time with friends and family.

Myra will be remembered for her love and devotion to family, her apple pies, and her independent spirit.

Survivors include two sons, Delbert Strickert, Eufaula, Okla., and William Strickert, Yuma, Colo.; three daughters, Phyllis Sage, Kennewick, Wash., Linda Orrick, Reeds Spring, Mo., and Annette Armstrong, Centennial, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 17 greatgrandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Dana Marie Orrick; two brothers and five sisters.

A private graveside service will be held later this spring at the Scott County Cemetery with Steve Payne presiding.
