Betty Jean Burgess

Betty Jean Burgess, 93, died, on June 19, 2023, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1930, to George P. and Grace (Bush) Graham in Scott City.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scott City and a lifelong resident of Scott City.

She was a dental assistant for almost 20 years before she was employed as a secretary for KB Sprayers.

She was a member of the Maranatha Singers, a beloved Sunday School teacher for many years and was involved in numerous Bible studies and prayer groups.

On Dec. 3, 1950, she married Ronald Keith Burgess in Scott City. He died on Aug. 24, 2021, in Scott City.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan Rose and husband, Terry, Scott City; two sisters-in-law, Patsi Graham and Bobbie Burgess, Scott City; one grandson, Neil Rose and wife, Jenny, Scott City; two granddaughters, Darci Cain and husband, Brent, Manhattan, and Breva Spencer and husband, Josh, Manhattan; three great-granddaughters, Jacy and Tara Rose, Scott City, and Spencer, Manhattan; two great-grandsons, Tegan Cain and Ryker Spencer, Manhattan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty is also preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Mary Alice Dean, Louise Crist and LuCille Duff; and one brother, Tom Graham.

The funeral service was held June 24 at the United Methodist Church in Scott City with Rev. Jeff Goetzinger and Rev. Dennis Carter presiding.

Interment was at the Scott County Cemetery.
