George J. Tecklenburg

George J. Tecklenburg, 76, died Nov. 23, 2023, at his home in Hutchinson.

He was born on April 28, 1947, in Scott City, the son of Joseph Alfonzo and Ethel Pearl (Ruffhead) Tecklenburg.

A lifetime resident of Scott City, he was a retired maintenance operator at Ortho Fertilizer for 21 years.

George was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, VFW and NRA. He was a past member of the Boy Scouts and had his pilot’s license.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a U.S. Army Reservist for over 20 years.

On Sept. 26, 1969, he married Janet K. Matthies in Scott City. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Chris Tecklenburg and wife, Shawna, Hutchinson; daughters, Jill Chelemedos and husband, Dennis, and Terri Berning and husband, Jon, both Scott City; sister, Sara Goodman and husband, Dan, Scott City; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Dennis Michael Tecklenburg.

The funeral service was held Nov. 28 at the First Christian Church, Scott City, with Steve Payne presiding.

Interment was in the Scott County Cemetery.
