Francis Dowd
Francis Ray Dowd was born on May 13, 1939, on the family farm near Canton, Okla., the son of Joseph and Pearl Frances (Wheeler) Dowd.
He departed this life on Oct. 6, 2024, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He married Joyce LaRue Emmons on August 3, 1962. She survives.
Ray graduated from Canton High School and then earned three college degrees. He received degrees in agriculture and education from Oklahoma State University and another education degree from Fort Hays State University. He was fulfilled by teaching, farming and following and celebrating life with Joyce and all his grandchildren’s activities.
Ray also strived to raise champions beginning with sheep during his involvement with Future Farmers of America followed by miniature schnauzers and most recently top quality red Angus cattle.
Other honors during his lifetime included being a Deacon Elder, teacher, coach and on many various committees. He had a heart for helping and sharing his knowledge. His interests also included history and he enjoyed visiting with others.
Other survivors include his daughter, Shelli Dowd and her children, Taylor Vredenburg, Emma Vredenburg, Ashley Vredenburg and Matthew Vredenburg; daughter, Cindi Cramer and husband, Dean, and their children, Sara Teeter and husband, Trey, David Cramer and wife, Brylee, Traci Cramer and Daniel Cramer; daughter, Kaylee Martindale and husband, Lance, and their children, Jenelle, Madalynn and Vivian; daughter, Katren Foos and husband, Colin, and their children, Caydex Foos and Cru Foos; sisterin- law, Ruth Dowd; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Louie Dowd; and an infant brother.
A family Celebration of Life was held at Bible Fellowship Church in Dighton and burial followed in the Healy Cemetery.
