August Phillip Luebbers

August Phillip Luebbers, 93, died Oct. 21, 2024, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born on Dec. 6, 1930, in Marienthal to August C. and Beata (Kreutzer) Luebbers.

A lifetime resident of the community, he was a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council. He was also involved in the Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau board, USD No. 467 school board, Senior Center board, SWKAA Sub Region 3 board, Southwest Kansas Area Agency on Aging board of directors, and the Silver Haired Legislature.

On May 24, 1955, August married LaVerne M. Kuehler in Sharon Springs. She died on May 28, 2022, in Leoti.

Survivors include his sons, Jerome Luebbers and wife, Darla, Leoti, Dennis Luebbers and wife, Mary Sue, Hutchinson, Bill Luebbers and wife, Marilyn, Scott City, and Tony Luebbers and wife, JaLene, Garden City; daughters, Berta Binns and husband, Hugh, Scott City, and Bev Smith and husband, Tim, Paola; brothers, Don Luebbers, DeRidder, La., and Jerry Luebbers, Rainier, Ore.; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Omer “Boots”, Pete and Hans; three sisters, Lenora, Edith and Donna; and a granddaughter, Annie.

The vigil service was held Oct. 25 at St. Mary’s Church in Marienthal with Fr. Benjamin Martin presiding.

Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary’s Church in Marienthal on Oct. 26 with Fr. John O’Neil and Fr. Benjamin Martin presiding.

Interment was in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marienthal.
