Vergil Wright

Vergil N. Wright, 90, died April 10, 2025 at his home in Wichita.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1934, in Scott City, the son of William Alfred and Alda Florence (Easley) Wright.

He had been a resident of Scott City until 2001 when he moved to Wichita.

Vergil was a 1956 graduate of Kansas State University with a bachelors degree in communications and was a member of the Gamma Chi Fraternity.

In 1957, he moved back to Scott City to work in the family car business taking over as the owner and operator of Wright’s Chevrolet GMC in Scott City for 24 years before retiring in 1984.

After leaving Scott City, he worked for the Kansas Lottery for over 11 years and then as a driver for Davis Moore, transporting cars.

He was a member of the Hillside Christian Church in Wichita, Isis Shriners and Masonic Lodge No. 284 in Scott City.

On June 2, 1957, he married Sharlene L. Reed in Alliance, Nebr. She survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Amy Arnhold and husband, Jeff, Andover; brother, Alan Wright and wife, Donna. Valencia, Calif.; daughterin- law, Annette Wright, Garden City; five grandchildren, Zachary W. Arnhold, Reagan Wright and Bruce Mininger, Blake Thackery and wife, Kayla, Brendon Thackery and wife, Hillary, and Brett Thackery and wife, Brooke; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bill Wright; and two step-brothers.

The funeral service was held April 15 at the Hillside Christian Church, Wichita, with Pastor Wade Miller presiding.

A graveside service was held April 16 at the Scott County Cemetery.
