John LaCoy, Jr.
John LaCoy Jr., 58, died Oct. 17, 2025, at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
He was born on July 14, 1967, to John “Jack” and Sharon Elizabeth (Duvall) LaCoy in San Antonio, Tex.
He grew up as a military brat, but always called Kansas City his home town. After living in Garden City and Marienthal, John and his wife settled down in Scott City.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City, and a member of the Chippewa tribe.
John was a dedicated nurse and touched many lives through his vocation at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City.
On August 9, 1991, he married Sandra LaCoy in Olathe. They were married for almost 25 years before she died on May 5, 2016.
Survivors include his daughters Ashley LaCoy and partner David Ellis, Scott City, and Audrey Blackburn and husband Brady, Scott City; two siblings, Jeffrey LaCoy, Kansas City, and Jennifer Martin and husband, Tim, Merced, Calif.; grandchildren Brogan LaCoy, Xander LaCoy, Breagan Blackburn, Jude Ellis and Cecil Ellis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jason LaCoy; his in-laws, Melvin and Evelyn Stegman; brother-inlaw, Stanley Stegman; and one stillborn grandson, Zane Ashton LaCoy.
A memorial service was held at St. Mary Church on Oct. 28 with Father Bernard Felix presiding.
Inurnment was at the St. Mary Cemetery in Marienthal.
