Rex Grothusen

Rex W. Grothusen, 83, died on Jan. 10, 2026, at the UMC Hospital, Lubbock, Tex.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1942, in Des Moines, Ia., the son of Ralph and Viola (Huseman) Grothusen.

He had been a resident of Scott City since he was two years old.

He attended Manning Grade School and graduated from Scott Community High School in 1960. Rex then attended Kansas State University and graduated in May of 1965.

He married Kairn Debra Christy on July 18, 1965.

Rex was very involved in the Scott City community but his big love was the Lake Scott Car Club.

Due to health reasons, the couple moved to the Lubbock area.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Greg and Melinda Grothusen and Todd and Paige Grothusen; two grandsons, Zane and Joanne Grothusen and daughter Avelyn, and Chance and Brandi Grothusen and their children, Brooklyn Grothusen and Carson Grothusen; a brother, David Grothusen; and two granddaughters, Ansley Grothusen and Aubrey Grothusen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rex chose to donate his body to Texas Tech University Health Science Center Institute of Anatomical Sciences.

There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
