Glenda Schinnerer

Glenda Viola Schinnerer, 89, died February 5, 2026, in Edmond, Okla.

She was the oldest daughter of Everett and Ruby (Burns) Thomas, born on July 28, 1936, in a small house south of Shallow Water.

Glenda graduated from Scott Community High School in 1954. After graduation, she worked at several establishments in Scott City, including Dairy Queen, concession stands at the swimming pool, bowling alley, and J.M. McDonald’s clothing store.

In the summer of 1954, Glenda met the love of her life, Clyde Leroy Schinnerer. They married on December 31 of that same year.

For many years, they lived and worked on a farm in southern Scott County, where they welcomed six children. In 1979, they moved into town, but maintained the farm for many more years.

In 2010, they moved to Edmond, Okla., where they lived their remaining years.

Glenda was active in the Scott community for many years, volunteering as a Candystriper at the Scott County Hospital and an ombudsman at Park Lane Nursing Home.

She was a very active member of the Church of Christ in Scott City, faithfully attending worship services and ladies’ Bible study, teaching children in weekly Bible classes, and in Vacation Bible School each summer.

Glenda also served alongside Clyde at Tri-State Christian Youth Camp in Stratton, Nebr., as the camp nurse. Although she didn’t have formal medical training, her first aid skills were top-notch, and she was able to diagnose a case of appendicitis because she recognized the symptoms from an episode she had seen on the 1970’s TV show “Emergency.”

Glenda enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, especially her Bible; sewing, needlepoint, quilting, gardening, cooking, and baking. She received a grand champion ribbon at the Scott County Fair for a rum cake, and blue ribbons at the Oklahoma State Fair for two quilts she had embroidered and made.

One quilt was of the 50 state birds. The other was of all U.S. presidents to date, and she had to create her own embroidery pattern of Barack Obama.

Glenda is survived by her children, Tonda Stafford and husband, Barry, Edmond, Okla., Mark Schinnerer and wife, Linda, Carlsbad, N.M., Leah Ries and husband, Barry, Mankato, Minn., Donna Fore, Houston, Tex., Lisa Reed and husband, Boyd, Wilmington, Del., and Steven Schinnerer and wife, Jennifer, Cave Springs, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Clyde and Ronald; a sister, Wanda; and three grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, and Cameron.

A graveside service will be held Thurs., Feb. 12, 10:00 a.m., at the Scott County Cemetery with Steve Schinnerer and Mark Schinnerer presiding. The family welcomes all who would like to attend.

Memorials may be made to In Search of the Lord’s Way, Box 371, Edmond, Okla. 73083-9901.
