Jane McBroom

AlWilda Jane (Gorman) McBroom, 96, died on July 22, 2026, at Locust Grove Village in La-Crosse.

She was born on July 12, 1930, at home in Cheyenne County to Billie and Edith Orel (Mc-Nary) Gorman.

Jane married Elmer Leroy Hawpe on October 1, 1949, in Burlington, Colo. She later married Marvin McBroom in Scott City on May 21, 1976.

Jane was a big supporter of the military as both her husbands, her brothers, and her only grandson were all in the military. She began as a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 6882 of Colby, in 1956, then transferred to VFW Post No. 7773 of Scott City in 1958.

She helped with many projects over the years and held many offices for the local Auxiliary.

She helped with bingo and treats at Park Lane Nursing Home as a volunteer and later found herself a job filling the food trays in the kitchen.

Jane is survived by her son, Francis Dean Hawpe and wife, Jannice; daughters, Lola Horner and husband, David, and Nancy Urban and husband, Dale; a brother, Loren Gorman; sisters, Leta Gillespie, Vera K. Gorman, and Bonnie Irene McQuillen; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; infant children, Allen Ray Hawpe and Linda Jo Hawpe; granddaughter, Jennifer Michelle Horner; brothers, Earl Linn Gorman, Leonard Ike Gorman, William Henry Gorman and Billie Murrel Gorman; and sisters, Irma Idell Gorman, Mary Lurinda Litchfield and Connie Jean King.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat., August 1, 10:30 a.m., at the First Christian Church in Scott City with Steve Payne presiding.

The family has requested a private inurnment.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Fort Dodge Soldiers Home or the American Cancer Society in care of Price and Sons Funeral Homes, Box 553, Scott City, Ks. 67871.
