Bernard ‘Bernie’ Riedl
Bernard “Bernie” Riedl, 88, died Oct. 5, 2021, at his home in Sedgwick.
He was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Garden City, the son of Fred and Julia (Kraisinger) Riedl.
Bernie taught at the Sedgwick High School for 36 years, teaching science and other various classes. He was also the senior class sponsor, planning many memorable trips throughout the years.
After retiring from teaching, he continued to be involved in the school as a member of the school board. He also continued to run his electrical business until his retirement.
On July 16, 1955 he married Joyce Anderson. She died April 19, 2012.
Survivors include two sons, Kevin Riedl and wife, Tracy Unruh, and Kyle Riedl and wife, Sheila; two brothers, Duane Riedl and Raymond Riedl; a son-in-law, Rev. Scott Simmons; grandchildren, KD Riedl, J. Riedl, Dustin Riedl and wife, Angela, and Allison Hieden and husband, Tanner; and a great-grandson, Titus Hieden.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dr. Kay Lin Riedl-Simmons; brothers, Orvall Riedl, Wilber Riedl and Dean Riedl; and a sister, Opal Riedl.
A memorial service will be held Fri., Oct. 15, 2:00 p.m., at the Sedgwick United Methodist Church in Sedgwick with Pastor Janella McDaniel officiating.
Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
