Charles Russell “Chuck” Parmer, 87, died Feb. 22, 2024, at Country Living Memory Care in Larned.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1936, in Bascom, Fla., to Gussie and Esther (Jordan) Parmer.

He married Carolyn Sue Hopper on April 21, 1960, in Scott City. She died Sept. 9, 2017.

A resident of Great Bend since 1997, Chuck was formerly of Hays.

He was a member of American Legion Post No. 180, Lake Barton Golf Club, and the First United Methodist Church where he was active as an usher and involved in Sunday School.

Chuck was the branch manager for Cen-Kan Supply and American Electric, then later retired from Winnelson Company in 1997.

He was a United States Air Force Airman 1st Class, having served from 1958-63.

Survivors include, a son, Sheldon Parmer and wife, Tammy, Austin, Tex.; daughter, Sonya Rein and husband, J.D., Great Bend; three grandchildren, Ali Doyle and husband, Michael, Thomas Rein and wife, Meghan, and Sagan Johnson and husband, Matt; and two great-grandchildren, Myla Rein and Bowie Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Martha Parmer, Shorterville, Ala., and Joyce Ramsey, Scott City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Branton Parmer; and a sister, Alice Jeanette Lee.

A memorial service was held on Feb. 29 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Chaplain Guy Hanna presiding. Military rites were conducted by the McConnell Air Force Honor Guard.

Memorials have been designated to the First United Methodist Church or American Legion Post No. 180 in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Road, Great Bend, Ks. 67530.
