Cheryl Ann Turley

Cheryl Ann Turley, 72, died, Feb. 17, 2023, at home in Park City with her daughter by her side. She was born Cheryl Ann Criswell in Ellsworth, the daughter of Darrel Leroy and Edith Mae (McCoy) Criswell, on Dec. 25, 1950.

She was a 1969 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School and attended Salt City Business College, Hutchinson, from 196971, earning her degree as a certified legal secretary.

She was well-read and even more so, wellversed. She strived with speed at any keyboard or typewriter, and was very skilled in the art of shorthand.

In 1971, she married Dennis Mayfield in Medicine Lodge, divorcing in 1974. She married Delmar Turley in Scott City in 1976, divorcing in 2009.

She lived in many places throughout her life including: Wilson, Salina, Medicine Lodge, Scott City, Park City, Odessa, Amarillo (Tex.), Des Moines (Ia.), and Milwaukee (Wisc.), but she never lost her deep love for the State of Texas. Her time at Odessa’s Permian High School, is among her most favorable memories, when she was Adonis TriHi-Y, and a Pepette in the school’s Pep Club.

She often recalled all the wonderful memories and lifelong friendships that were made during her senior year at Medicine Lodge, and was especially fond of her Texan childhood and the precious memories made on Patton Drive in the Permian Basin.

Her time as a para and computer teacher at the Shallow Water and Healy schools, as well as her near decade of service as the friendliest face at Wendy’s, were and will always be, cherished by many.

She enjoyed traveling with friends and family to California, the Dakotas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Tennessee, Florida and many other places along the way. She often spoke of wonderful memories around music and dances. She was a natural born storyteller and especially enjoyed having long conversations with her closest friends and family.

She would talk with you through anything, and was always a listening ear, giving counsel to so many throughout her lifetime. Every single person that met her, fell in love with her adorable, bubbly, joyous personality. Her favorite pastime was reading about angels, mysteries, or just about any novel. She enjoyed several genres, but mostly loved delving into scripture, and spending time with the Lord. Most important to Cheryl, was her unconditional love of Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her children, Jason Turley, Colwich, Tyson Turley, Dighton, and Shareena Schiffelbein and husband, Adam, Park City; sisters, Diane Simpson and husband, Doug, San Antonio, Tex., Carolyn West and husband, Tom, Scott City, and Mary Comba, Scott City; grandchildren: Jessica Jo Carter, Wichita, Ashley Marie Thornburg, Great Bend, Taylor Nicole Berry, Wichita, Terance Jay Turley, Bismarck, N.D., and Logan Cordale Turley, Dighton; one great-grandchild, Jaxon Matthew Carter; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Fri., Feb. 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cheryl Turley Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
