Daniel G. Weides

Daniel G. Weides, 88, died March 22, 2026, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.

He was bom on Sept. 18, 1937, in Lexington, Nebr., the son of Lawrcncc G. and Ruth E. (Wickwire) Weides.

A resident of Scott City since 1971, moving from Great Bend, he was the general manager at Scott City Grain, a cattlc nutritionist for Scott Pro, and served as Scott City mayor (four years) and Scott City treasurer (nine years).

Dan’s real passion was raising, showing and judging registered Quarter Horses.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Scott City, and a 3rd and 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus.

Among Dan’s other accomplishments were: church song leader and Eucharistic minister, Barbershop Tumbleweed Chorus member (18 years), Scott County Hospital board member and chairman, VIP Center board and volunteer driver, 1998 Scott County Volunteer of the Year, Kiwanis International (president of the local chapter), vocalist for hundreds of weddings and funerals, portrayed the king in the Madrigal Dinner and Christ in the Easter pageant, Catholic Youth Organization sponsor and teacher, donated to the Red Cross Bloodmobile on a regular basis and was an NRA member.

On Sept. 9, 1961, he married Linda J. Dunlap in Julesburg, Colo. She survives.

Other survivors include his son, Chris Weides and wife, Lana, Justin, Tex.; daughters, Katie Cordell and husband, Rene, Scott City, Pati Pfcnningcr and husband, Chris, Scott City, and Teresa Spencer and husband, Joe, Wichita; brothers, Larry Weides and wife, Cheryl, Wauwatosa, Wise., Dale Weides and wife, Kathy, Highlands Ranch, Colo., James Weides, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Steve Weides, Lexington, Nebr.; a sister, Maggie Morrison and husband, Chuck, Scott City; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul Roger Wcides; sisters-in-law, Connie Weides and Kathleen Kaufman; and son-in-law, Brett Eisenhour.

A Vigil service was held on March 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Memorial Mass was held on March 25 at the church with Fr. Don Bedore presiding.

Inurnment was in the Scott County Cemetery.
