Delma Carlene Calvin

Delma Darlene Calvin, 78, WaKeeney, died June 28, 2023, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1944, to Lenard and Thelma (Roberts) Fairchild in Scott City.

Delma grew up on a farm near Russell Springs. She met Max E. Calvin while attending Russell Springs High School and married him on June 25, 1960. He survives.

They moved to Haysville and she completed her high school education at Campus High School. They were blessed with three sons, Harley, Chris and Paul.

They recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Max and Delma moved to WaKeeney in 1970. She was a full-time mother until she began working at Boogaart’s Grocery Store where she remained employed for 40 years.

Delma enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking her world-famous chicken and noodles at holiday meals, canning and growing flowers. She also enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, and loved spending time with her family, especially on holidays.

Delma is also survived by sons, Harley Calvin and wife, Christy, Ellis, and Chris Calvin and wife, Jennifer, Hays; a sister, Vada Turley, Scott City; daughter-in-law, Angie Calvin, WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Chelsey Woken and husband, Casey, Altoona, Ia., Kyle Calvin and wife, Jenny, Wichita, Ashley Calvin, WaKeeney, Trevor Calvin and wife, Holly, Hays, Alexa and Paula Calvin, WaKeeney, and Preston and Zachery Calvin, La-Crosse; and four greatgrandchildren, Brexlyn Woken, Lincoln and Briar Calvin and Titan Calvin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul; daughter-in-law, Leslie Redman Calvin; brother, Darrel Fairchild; and sister, Verla Sanders.

A funeral service was held on July 6 at the Wa-Keeney Church of God. Burial followed at the Wa-Keeney City Cemetery.
