Donelle L. Proctor

Donelle L. Proctor, 81, Talladega, Ala., formerly of Chattanooga, Tenn., died, March 23, 2023.

She was born in Scott City, on April 20, 1941, the daughter of Don and Marie Lang.

Donelle graduated from Scott Community High School before earning her undergraduate degree in education from the University of Kansas.

Her professional career spanned several years in executive positions with Recreation Ranch and other nonprofit agencies.

She was a member of PED and ARC of Talladega. Donelle was a woman of faith. She loved God and lived her life in service of others.

Donelle’s favorite pastimes included spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed caring for and riding her horses. She and her best friend, Sally Worland, started a therapeutic horse program for children with disabilities. The horsemanship program for the disabled is Recreation Ranch which began in 1978 and was the first therapeutic program in the Southeast.

Donelle is survived by her son, Chris Oldenburg and wife, Jennifer, Chelsea, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Gray Oldenburg and Helen Catherine Oldenburg.

A memorial service was held April 1 at Camp Hidden Hollow. Donations may be made to Recreation Ranch, Inc., or ARC of North Talladega County.
