Dr. Leonard Ratzlaff
Dr. Leonard K. Ratzlaff, 76, was born on Jan. 18, 1949, to Herman B. and Elsie D. (Dirks) Ratzlaff in Scott City.
In 1967, he graduated from Scott Community High School.
Leonard served in the United States Army from 1970-72. After training, he served in Germany as an x-ray technician.
After serving in the Army, he attended Hutchinson Community College for two semesters then attended Wichita State University, graduating in 1974 with a degree in microbiology and biochemistry. In 1976, Leonard graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic College.
Leonard enjoyed being an active member of Eastland Baptist Church in Tulsa, Okla. One of the things he enjoyed doing for the church was making several dishes of scalloped potatoes.
He was very much into fitness. His younger years involved running long distances, completing marathons (26.2 miles), a couple triathlons, and he loved biking long distances on the roads or in the gym. Leonard was also a fishing enthusiast.
He was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross.
Growing up on a farm in Western Kansas, he learned how to drive a tractor, truck and combine at a very young age. Drivers education was an easy course for him in high school as he had been driving on country roads a couple of years before then, while in grade school.
Leonard is survived by one sister, Glenda Ryan, Newton; and five brothers, Virgil Ratzlaff, Scott City, Garry Ratzlaff, Newton, Delbert Ratlaff, Grove, Okla., Michael Ratzlaff, Russellville, Ark., and Galen Ratzlaff, Scott City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merrell Maynard, Gerald Dean, Chester, Melvin and Milford; and sisters, Joyce Koehn and Virginia Koehn.
The family requests memorial donations be made in his name to Eastland Baptist Church Missions in care of the Eastland Baptist Church, 1835 South 129th East Avenue, Tulsa, Okla. 74108.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, 1:00 p.m., at Eastland Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Ramsey officiating.
