Eleanor Abplanalp

Eleanor Arlene Abplanalp, 90, of Newton, died Feb. 23, 2024, at NMC Hospital in Newton.

Eleanor was born Aug. 8, 1933, at home in Burns, to Harry and Lucille (Mathiot) Shockley.

She was baptized and joined the United Methodist Church on April 17, 1949, in Potwin.

Eleanor attended Potwin schools until her sophomore year when she attended and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1951.

She met Bob while in high school and they were married on Jan. 30, 1953, after Bob returned home from serving the United States Navy. They were married at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Potwin.

Eleanor worked for the Scott County Library as an assistant librarian for 18 years and retired in July of 1991.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Steven Abplanalp and wife, Jill, Terry Abplanalp and wife, LeAnne, and Cynthia Abplanalp Webster and husband, Larry; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and one greatgreat- grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Doris King.

A graveside service was held on Feb. 29 at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, with Chaplin Marty Colborn officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association and may be sent in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
