Jacquelyn Crist Dabney, 72, died May 4, 2024.
She was born and raised in Garden City. She graduated from Holcomb High School in Holcomb. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Master’s degree in school/ clinical psychology from Fort Hays State University in Hays.
She furthered her education and obtained an MBA from Troy State University.
After working for the Salina and Minneapolis schools for seven years, she accepted a job with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) in Wurzburg, Germany.
She continued to work with DoDDS and served as a school psychologist in Alabama, Hawaii, Belgium, Spain, England and Japan. Jacquelyn was a member of the Association of School Psychologists.
While in DoDDs, she had the opportunity to travel extensively in Europe, Asia and the Mediterranean. Some of her favorite places to visit were Holland, Garmish, the Great Wall of China, Israel and the Dead Sea. She was an avid traveler and loved nature.
Jacquelyn was also a devout Christian and served in prayer ministries throughout her life.
She retired and settled in Florida. After retirement, she started the Freeport Republicans and served as their president.
She is survived by her daughter, Katrina Brown and husband, Julian; brothers, Johnny Crist and wife, Leveta, Phoenix, Ariz., Dan Crist and wife, Nancy, Stonewall, Colo., and Mel Crist and wife, Jane, Garden City; and her grandson, Damien.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Grace Crist.
A memorial service will be held on Sat., June 8, 2:00 p.m., at the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend. This is the church she grew up attending and that her great-grandfather, John Eli Crist, founded and pastored.
Jacquelyn wished to be cremated, so there will be no viewing. The family will spread her ashes at one of her favorite spots.
