James Allen ‘Jimbo’ Boyer

James Allen “Jimbo” Boyer, 90, died on July 30, 2025 at his home in Wichita.

He was born on April 10, 1935, in Pawnee City, Nebr., the son of John and Juanita Boyer.

Jim graduated from Scott Community High School in 1953 and shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country for two years before being honorably discharged due to a medical disability, having earned the National Defense Service Medal.

After his military service, Jim worked alongside his father in the family business, The News Chronicle in Scott City, until his retirement.

His life’s true calling was ministry. In 1980, he graduated from Melodyland School of Theology and on June 13, 1982, he was ordained as a minister. He faithfully served as a missionary at-large, committed to sharing the Gospel wherever the Lord led, from the streets of Los Angeles to the prisons of Tijuana, Mexico.

In 1955, Jim married Mary Curl in Scott City.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Dee Hedges and husband, Thane, Wichita; a son, John Boyer, Anaheim, Calif.; granddaughter Nicole Campos and husband, Mark; greatgrandsons, Dash and Krue Campos; a niece, Judy Curl and family; and nephew, TJ Curl and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Juanita Boyer.

A Celebration of Life was held on Aug. 5 at the First United Baptist Church, Scott City, with Pastor Kyle Evans officiating.

Interment was at the Scott County Cemetery.
