Janice Kaye Koehn

Our Mom, Janice Kaye (Beeson) Koehn, was born to Marvin and Mary Beeson on July 10, 1955, at Scott City.

She peacefully departed this earth on May 3, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City, having reached the age of 66 years.

Mom spent her childhood years on her parent’s farm in rural Scott County and received her education in the Scott County Public Schools.

On February 28, 1983, she was married to our dad, Dennis Koehn. She, together with her son Ryan, made their home with Dad in Ingalls. Later, four sons and one daughter were born into this union.

Dad and Mom were baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite at Cimarron by Minister Vernon Giesbrecht on April 10, 1983.

Their early years were spent in Ingalls, then they moved to Cimarron and lived in Grandpa Curtis’ house. Dad was a custom hay operator and mom helped where she could. They lived in Cimarron about five years and then they bought land in Lakin and moved there in 1992, to begin a longtime dream of farming.

Many happy memories were created there in the “home on the hill.”

As the children grew older, Mom worked as a receptionist at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. She was very much a people person and people loved her. She had a tremendous sense of humor and loved to laugh with her friends.

In later years, Mom’s health declined and she became housebound, but even under those circumstances it was impressive to us how she was always upbeat and positive when we would stop in to see her. We trust her into the everlasting hands of a just God.

Survivors include six children, Ryan Beeson and wife, Linda, Louise, Tex., Jesse Koehn and wife, Suzann, Lakin, Katie and Amber Sechrist, Katy, Tex., Tyler Koehn, Newton, and Benjamin Koehn, Nathan and Marcia Koehn, Lakin; three siblings, Jacque Jantzen and husband, Ed, Cimarron, David Beeson, Scott City, and Jamie Beeson, Scott City; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral service was held May 6, 2022, at the Lakin Mennonite Church. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Funeral arrangements were by Garnand Funeral Home, Lakin.
