Janice Louise (Sramek) Adams
Janice Louise (Sramek) Adams was born on July 11, 1943, at home in Leoti.
She was the second oldest of 11 children born to Philip and Josephine Sramek.
After graduating from Scott Community High School, she followed her dream to attend college in California at the University of San Diego, but ultimately came back to her home state and graduated with a bachelors degree in political science from Kansas State University.
She went on to earn her Master’s degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and became a teacher working in Missouri and later California, where she met and married John Wilburn Adams, a captain in the Air Force and the love of her life.
They had a daughter, Jennifer Anne, and soon afterwards were deployed overseas and lived in Taiwan.
Unfortunately, six months later John was killed in action during the Vietnam War, leaving her widowed at the age of 28. She returned to the U.S. and decided to start a new life in Phoenix, Ariz., where her older brother, Jerald, was settling.
She lived in Phoenix for 50 years, except for three years when she attended law school in San Diego, until her death on May 13, 2022, at the age of 78.
Janice leaves behind her only daughter, Jennifer (Adams) Basinger, and son-in-law David Basinger; grandsons Nicholas and Nathanael Basinger; brother Terry Sramek and sisters Philene Pickett, Cindy Kelly, Joleen Rupp, Patricia Greenbank, and Nancy Sramek; four nephews and two great-nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents Josephine and Philip Sramek, Scott City; brothers Jerald Sramek, Phoenix, and Jimmy Sramek, Scott City; sisters Charlene Sramek, Scott City, and Jacque Sramek Lucero, Garden City.
The funeral service will be Sat., June 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Falconer Funeral Home, 251 W. Juniper Avenue, Gilbert, Ariz., with a reception following at her daughter and son-in-law’s home, 932 E. Vinedo Lane, Tempe, Ariz., 85284.
She will be laid to rest with her husband, John, at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
