Jean Patrice (Jeanie) Norman Hardy, 102, died Dec. 14, 2024, at Park Lane Nursing Home, Scott City.

She was born on March 11, 1922, in Scott City, the daughter of John Wesley Norman and Elsie Mae (Beamgard) Norman.

Jean was a lifetime resident of Scott City.

She married the love of her life, Weston V. Hardy, Jr., on Oct. 19, 1940, in Dodge City. He died July 12, 2005, in Scott City.

Jean worked at Inland Utilities Company during World War II and for many years she was an administrative assistant with Fouquet and Associates, Inc. in Scott City.

Music was her passion and lifeblood, starting early in life with performances on the marimba with her two sisters.

Jean was a founding member of Community Christian Church in Scott City; a founding member of the High Plains Study Club; a Scott City Lions Club accompanist beginning in 1939 and later a full member; a member of the Scott County Arts Council, Scott County Historical Society and NARFE.

In 1996, she was named the Scott Community “Volunteer of the Year.” She played piano and organ for church services and at Park Lane Nursing Home, for Praisebringers, and for many high school musicals.

She accompanied students at vocal music contest for many years and played for hundreds of weddings, funerals and special occasions for over 80 years.

Jean was part of a women’s quartet that performed for years throughout Scott City and was a longtime member of the Friday women’s bowling league.

The Scott Community High School vocal music room was named after her in 2010.

Survivors include her sons, Weston “Chip” Hardy, III, Nashville, Tenn., and Tad Hardy and wife, Susan, Baton Rouge, La.; three grandchildren, Dylan Hardy, Plattsburgh, N.Y., Devon Relle and wife, LJ, Marrero, La., and Elliot Hardy and wife Lindsey, Baton Rouge, La.; four great-grandchildren, McCall Hardy, Weston Hardy, Louis ‘John’ Relle IV and Luke Relle; many nieces and nephews and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margie Rupp and Claire Smith De-Weese; and one niece, Venus Mershon Jones.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Scott City.
