Jessie Willodean Plymell

Jessie Willodean Plymell, 96, died on June 26, 2023, at Ascension Living Via Christi Village, Hays.

She was born April 4, 1927, in McFall, Mo., to Durward Basil and Frances Mildred (Duerson) Royston.

On Dec. 23, 1944, in Troy, she married Harold A. Plymell. They celebrated 78 years of marriage in 2022. He survives.

Willodean graduated in 1945 from Pattonsburg (Mo.) High School.

In 1949, Harold and Willodean and son, Larry, moved to the Sheldon, Mo., area to farm.

Shirley, Ron, and Dean were all born in Lamar, Mo.

In 1964, the family began custom harvesting which they did before moving to Scott City in 1967. Harold and Willodean moved to Hays in 1974. They continued custom harvesting until 1977.

In 1978, they began over-the-road trucking with their own semi. They were both drivers until they retired in 1990. They enjoyed seeing the country in their many years of trucking.

Willodean was a member of the First Methodist Church, Hays.

Other survivors include her children, Larry Plymell and wife, Darlene, Hays, Shirley Suppes and husband, Ron, Dighton, Ron Plymell and wife, Carol, Assaria, and Dean Plymell and wife, Bonnie, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Carolyn Gordon, Nevada, Mo.; grandchildren, Molly Legleiter, Hays, Shandi Westergard, Scott City, Sherry Kinderknecht, Colby, Courtney Britton, Colby, Shayne Suppes, Scott City, Rusty Plymell, Lakewood, Colo., Jeremy Plymell, Independence, and Aaron Plymell, Park City; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Willodean was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be Sat., July 1, 9:30-10:00 a.m., at Hays Memorial Chapel. The memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Inurnment will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.
