Joe L. Richardson, 76, died Dec. 15, 2024, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City.
He was born on Oct. 19, 1948, in Erick, Okla., the son of Earl and Retta Richardson.
He had been a resident of Scott City for the past 24 years, moving from Dumas, Tex.
Joe graduated from Dumas High School in 1967 and joined the U.S. Navy where he proudly served on the USS Lyman K. Swenson. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
He married Ida Cartwright in 1972 in Dumas, Tex., where they lived until moving to Kansas. She survives.
Joe worked as an operator for Kinder Morgan for 34 years.
He was a member of Immanuel Southern Baptist Church, Scott City, where he served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the Lake Scott Car Club and the Lyman K. Swenson Sailor’s Association.
Other survivors include his daughter, Ginger Moss, Scott City; brother, Wayne Richardson and wife, Pam, Amarillo, Tex.; sister, Yulonda Short, Amarillo, Tex.; three grandchildren, Eliza Larson, Shane Pope and Jolee Pope; three greatgrandchildren, Monte and Zaylee Larson and Emily Brobst; 24 nieces and nephews and many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clara Bell Richardson and Joy Lou Moss; and one great-grandson, Henry Jacob Larson.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
