Joseph David ‘J.D.’ Farr

Joseph David (J.D.) Farr, 89, was surrounded by his family when he died on Dec. 29, 2021, at his home in Garden City.

J.D. was born June 6, 1932, in Scott City, to Thomas Wardlaw and Clara Bell (Brundige) Farr. He married Elva Lena

He married Elva Lena Mills on Oct. 24, 1948, in Colorado.

J.D. owned and operated Farr Construction and Rentals, building many residential homes in Garden City and Holcomb.

J.D. and Elva belonged to a bowling team in their earlier years and were avid bridge players. J.D. would enjoy an afternoon at the racetrack occasionally.

Together they were supporters of the local YMCA and enjoyed going to events and games of their grandchildren.

J.D. and Elva celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in October of 2018.

J.D. is survived by his son, Jerry D. Farr and wife, Cindy, Florence, Colo.; a daughter, Diana Farr and husband, Joseph Darif, Garden City; grandchildren Jenny and Jim Waddle, Colorado Springs, Colo., David and Kelly Farr, Kansas City, Ks., Jeremy Farr, Garden City, Augustine and Maria Prieto, Dallas, Tex., Scott and Lisa Farr, Denver, Colo., Laura Farr, Denver, Jacob Farr, Holcomb, Jacquelyn Farr-Porter and Jason Porter, Garden City, and Jentrey Farr Gill, Holcomb; 23 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, Larry Farr and Gary Farr; brothers Ralph Farr, George Farr, Hamilton Farr, Melvin Farr, Garold Farr, Royal Farr, Paul Farr and Ernie Farr; and sisters Opal Barber, Sarah Jameson, Isabelle Sager and Violet France.

The funeral service will be held on Mon., Jan. 24, 10:30 a.m., at Turning Point Church of the Nazarene, 2720 Campus Dr., Garden City, with Pastor Nathan Haeck officiating.

Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery.
