Joyce Hinman

Joyce Joan (Meier) Hinman, 86, formerly of Scott City, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Randolph Hospice Home in Asheboro N.C.

She had resided in High Point, NC.

Joyce was born at home in Yoder, Wyo., to Carl D. and Mollie Meier.

She graduated from Minatare (Nebr.) High School in 1958.

In August 1958, she married Rodney Hinman, beginning a marriage and family life that would take them to various towns in Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas, including Scott City, as Rodney advanced in his career with KansasNebraska Natural Gas, later known as KN Energy.

Joyce embraced each community where she lived, participating in the local Jaycees and other organizations. After moving to Sidney, Nebr., she enjoyed singing with a ladies’ barbershop quartet, combining her love of community with the joy of music.

Joyce was a homemaker while her children were young, later working outside the home in various roles within education, including leading the Head Start program and being a small business owner for a short time in Scott City.

Later, Joyce worked as a house director for a fraternity at Florida State University and then for a sorority at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

These roles gave her the opportunity to be part of campus life and provide a welcoming, supportive presence for young adults.

After retiring, she relocated to High Point, N.C., where she spent her later years. Although she lived in many places, she always made it feel like home for those she loved.

Along with her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her siblings: Violet Meier, Melvin Meier, Harold Meier, Carl Meier, David Meier, Marlyce Ramig and Marvin Meier and Cathy Mangrum.

Those left to cherish the memory of Joyce are three sons, Kevin and Minoo Hinman, High Point, N.C., Jeff and Sheri Hinman, Gardner, Ks., and Rick and Cherise Hinman, Boulder City, Nev.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Joyce lived a life marked by family, resilience, community involvement, and a quiet strength that carried her through many chapters and changes.

She will be remembered for her gentle presence, attentive nature, and the laughter she shared with those around her.

Wright Funerals-Cremations, High Point, was in charge of arrangements.
