Larry McPherson

Larry Dean McPherson, 74, Winfield, died Oct. 21, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on May 17, 1951, in Scott City, Larry was the son of Kenneth V. and Pomona (Nevins) McPherson.

After high school, Larry proudly served two years in the Peace Corps in Brazil. Upon returning home, he studied farm and ranch management at Coffeyville Vo-Tech College.

On March 26, 1977, Larry married Gayle Horn in Winfield. She survives.

Larry worked for Rodeo Meats and General Electric before beginning a career at the Winfield Correctional Facility where he served as a floor officer for eight years until his retirement.

Larry was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Winfield.

Survivors also include his children, Lynn McPherson, Winfield, and Jennifer Gilmour and husband, Joshua, Wichita; brothers, Terry and Gary McPherson, both of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Nailah Ali, of Indiana, Lucille Matthews and husband, Joe, Indianapolis, Ind., Marilyn Cooper, Hudson, Colo., and Sherry Whisenton and husband, Joe, Fort Collins, Colo.; his grandchildren, Aaron, Andrue, Gabbie, Sydnie, Mya, Damisha, Isaiah, Gideon, Atlas, Jaylyn, Jade, Emma, Mary and Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Hope Collier-McPherson; two brothers, Alvin and Derald; and a sister, Elanor.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thurs., Oct. 30, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Ave., Winfield.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Sat., Nov. 1, 10:00 a.m., at Second Baptist Church, 820 E. 6th Ave., Winfield.

Interment will follow at Union-Graham Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Larry’s name for the Second Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service, Box 720, Winfield, Ks. 67156.
