Leon Conway

Leon Conway, 85, died Nov. 2, 2021, in Derby.

H e was born Jan. 16, 1936, to Carlos and Berniece Conway in Enid, Okla.

Leon was a science and art teacher at Scott Community High School in Scott City, where he also coached football, basketball and track. Leon also served as the assistant principal, athletic director, principal and superintendent of schools.

After leaving the education field, Leon entered private business, eventually specializing in environmental consulting services.

Leon was a loving and devoted husband, dad and granddad. He cared deeply for his family and friends and cherished the relationships he cultivated throughout his career and life.

Leon loved the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing and being with his family. He also enjoyed art, loved to draw and was an avid sports fan.

Leon shared his birth date with his daughter, Jana, and granddaughter, Regan.

Leon is survived by his wife of 67 years, JoAnne; children, LeAnne Thomas and husband, Jerry, Mark Conway and wife, Julie, and Jana Brownlee and husband, Shannon; sisters, Barbara Bailey, Beverly Page and Pat Wilkens and husband, Bud; grandchildren, Jarrett Thomas and wife, Kelsey, Mandi Menard and husband, Kolby, Tyler Conway and wife, Kirsten, Paige Creech and husband, Derrick, Staci Thomas, Regan Brownlee, and Reed Brownlee; great-grandchildren, Mark Conway II, Peyton Menard, Maci Conway, Brielle Thomas, Riley Menard and Kasen Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt, Ruby Simon; brother-in-law, Herbie Bailey; and other family members.

The funeral service was held Nov. 10 at Smith Family Mortuary Chapel, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, Kansas.

Interment followed at Pond Creek Cemetery in Pond Creek, Okla.
